Event Details

Communities across the country have recognized a growing housing crisis with many facets: workforce housing, “missing middle” housing, lack of housing options, affordable housing, etc. The crisis is directly impacting our work as economic developers as the housing crisis is constraining our workforce, making it harder to attract new industrial and commercial projects. But, what is an economic developer to do?

Join us for a session on practical tools and case studies of how you can address these issues head-on. We will examine the trends impacting housing, tools for you to gauge the scope of the problem in your community, the spectrum of housing options to consider, talking points you can use with your stakeholders, and policies and programs that can be used to grow your housing stock. We will walk through an example of the process of creating a housing strategy and two case studies of community-sponsored housing developments.
